New Manager Assimilation

January 20, 2016 @ 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm

A change in management can easily derail even the most productive teams as they try to understand how to work successfully with a new manager. Most of the time this transition happens slowly as individuals interpret their managers actions and comments and draw conclusions about what is required of them in this new world. Through trial and error individuals learn the working practices and preferred style of the manager. It’s an unsettling time that reduces productivity and creativity.

Building rapport and trust quickly is essential for the team to realize its potential so helping managers and their direct reports adjust to the new leader is paramount. The goal of a new manager assimilation meeting is to integrate the team and new leader, and reduce the time it takes to build trust and clarify expectations.

Four team activities in the session are designed to:

  • Share the two most important factors in team effectiveness
  • Address team and leader expectations and needs
  • Begin work on operating norms that move the team forward
