Learning Agility: Knowing what to do when you don’t know what to do
The New Business Normal

  • Jobs are getting bigger and more complex.
  • The need to acquire new skills is never ending; particularly skills for a current and future reality where markets, competition, technology, legislation and business strategies evolve organically and disruptively.
  • Not enough time on the job to build the complex skills related to strategy and being effective working with and through others.
  • Leaders, in particular are facing new situations, assignments, or challenges that could stump them if they are not prepared.

What is Learning Agility?

  • The ability and willingness to learn from experience and apply the learning to perform successfully under new or first time conditions.
  • Learning to deal effectively with first-time tasks, most often in changing or ambiguous situations.
  • Agile learning begins with a solid understanding of self.
  • Five elements of agile learning:
    1. Self-Awareness — gaining personal insights for a purpose.
    2. Mental Agility — curiosity with a penchant for creatively solving complex problems.
    3. People Agility — knowing, reading, valuing and adapting to others.
    4. Change Agility — posing the questions that get us to look at things differently.
    5. Results Agility — getting things done against the odds.
