Leading the Multi-Gen Workforce

September 27, 2016 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Leading the Multi-Gen Workforce examines talent through a generational lens — the bottom line is competitive advantage through engaged employees. The workforce is a very different workforce from the past. Managers probably notice subtle differences every day – differences in communication styles, work style, career outlook, expectations of them as the boss, retention factors, and what keeps people engaged in their work. While this generational mix has potential for conflict, misunderstanding and even resentment — there are huge opportunities for productivity, creativity, knowledge sharing and marketplace advantage.

We now have a five-generation workforce as Boomers and Silents postpone retirement and their grandchildren come to work. As the massive Boomer generation exits the workforce, competitive advantage will become even more tied to the ability to understand and capitalize on what attracts, retains and engages our talent. Millennials are less afraid of failure and driven less by financial incentives; if we don’t meet their needs they’ll find an employer that will. Gen Xers are solidly in the middle of our talent pipelines. Do managers know the talent messages and actions that will keep this generation moving forward?

Our future depends on a productive, engaged workforce. To achieve this, managers need practical, actionable information about managing the multi-generational workplace.

Learning Outcomes
As a result of participating in this session, managers will be able to:
• Identify the five generations at work
• Use a demographic lens to view their team’s talent
• Flex their communication approach and talent messages to each workforce demographic (attract, develop, retain)
• Create an action plan
